DETACH FROM STUFF & ATTEND TO YOUR HEART
Discover peace by resetting your priorities!
Tim Coen — Broker and Owner of Priority Home Realty Group
Selling your home is an emotional experience
Your house feels like a reflection of you—you’ve committed a lot of your time, energy, and creativity into this home, and you have lots of memories associated with it, plus it is probably one of your biggest financial investments; so getting it ready to show, having it judged by others, and handing it over to someone else may stir up more feelings than you expected.
Selling changes your perspective
You’ll want your house to look and feel its very best so buyers will want it and choose it, so preparing for pictures and showings is sure to involve projects and punch lists. This process can quickly turn the place where you’ve been pretty comfortable into what feels like an endless list of problems and pressures as you see all the things you never got around to, or didn’t quite finish, or only marginally maintained. So you’ll work hard to fix the flaws and present to buyers a place that you fell pretty good about, even though you know it isn’t perfect. Then buyers will come look, and some will still find things to complain about.
At the same time, you’re likely to find yourself feeling more attached to a few features of your house than you realized you were. You’re selling it for good reasons, and your next place will fit your needs better in some important ways, but you may find yourself feeling nostalgic about a few of the details you hadn’t consciously focused on for a while.
Both parts of this experience can tend to force you to focus on things to an extent that’s detrimental to your contentment. You are more than your stuff, and your life is more than this sale. The stuff and the sale are important, but you and your wellbeing are more important.
You can expect to feel both high and low emotions
Along the way to securing the home they love, most sellers experience confidence and insecurity, excitement and discouragement, worry and hope, energy and weariness, confusion and clarity, frustration and relief. Your ups and downs are very normal.
I care about you and what you are feeling
My mission is to take great care of you as I help you sell your house. Please share your thoughts and feelings with me. When you have victories to celebrate, or worries to process, or anger to vent, or grief to share, I am here for you, and I care about you.
I help you keep good perspective
I love to sort through your expectations and questions and emotions with you to help you see the big picture and choose the actions that keep you moving toward your goals. Thanks for sharing this journey with me! I am committed to your success.
I love to listen to your thoughts, feelings, and questions, so I'll do my best to stay available for conversation with you whenever you'd like to talk. You are important to me, and I want to encourage you and help you in every way I can.
